Mail Server Migration

Thank you for your patience as we move to the new mail server. Here are the steps we need to take by July 31, 2009.

Mail Server Migration

Accessing old & new accounts during DNS propagation

Refer to Email Services in the Support section for more information on email access and configuration.

Migrating Accounts

We will migrate your account by copying your folders and emails from the old server to the new server starting July 29 at 7:00 PM. This requires that we reset your account password; this new password was emailed to you.

You will need to use this new password to log in to your old account after the migration is done. This same password is used for your account on the new server.

Verifying Acount Migration

You need to verify that your archived emails have been successfully copied to the new server. Log in to your new account using webmail to do this.

NOTE: You will need the new temporary password emailed to you.

Accessing Your New Account

Add your account on the new server to your email client (Outlook, Mail, Thunderbird, etc) as follows:

  1. Don't delete your old account!  Rename your existing account with "OLD" in the name to differentiate it from the new one.  Refer to the attached screenshot to see an example.
  2. Create a new account with the following settings (refer to Email Services in the Support section for more information on email access and configuration, including screenshots):

    Incoming mail
    Server name: mail.schigas.com
    Server port: 143
    Server type: IMAP
User name: your full email address
    Secure connection: TLS, if available
    Outgoing mail
    Server name: mail.schigas.com
    Server port: 2525
    Server type: SMTP
    Authentication: Use name & password
User name: your full email address
    Secure connection: TLS, if available

Please use webmail to check your email if you can't configure your email client to access the new server.

Updating DNS

We will update the Domain Name Server (DNS) database on July 30 so that other servers on the internet know to send your email to the new server.

Note that it takes 24-48 hours for a DNS change to propagate around the world, so until it fully takes effect you should monitor both of your email accounts on the old server and the new server to ensure you don't miss any messages.
